It’s actually quite saddening to see, the very profession that supposedly embodies Caring, Understanding, Knowledge, Trust, Attention to detail, Responsibility, Empathy,… is the very people who couldn’t care less when their fellow colleague is feeling unwell or burnt out. It is very sad indeed to see, these very people who have years of experience inContinue reading “20170817”

20170704
There’s something particularly lonely about eating dinner alone, as the neighbouring couple on the right talks about their day and the two friends on the left talk of future plans, both pairs within elbow-bumping distance and yet it would be super awkward if I jumped into their conversations, haha! A man sitting with his familyContinue reading “20170704”
When
• 2016 Nov 16th • I guess I should applaud the attempt to improve practice and raise nursing as a professional; but when understaffing is the norm, when seniors nitpick at your faults because “you’re experienced” whilst juniors are allowed to rampage free, when others’ errors are accounted on your head, when the system is soContinue reading “When”
Admiration
Nursing is a very VERY teamwork intensive job. In the average ward, not only are you working amongst your nursing colleagues, but also struggling to balance patient’s preferences and doctors orders and seniors commands and various multidisciplinary specialties who all think they know the best of their worlds. Which may be true. But the balanceContinue reading “Admiration”
God blesses
2015 • July 17 There’s certain times along the road (called life) where you can almost foresee a pothole is up ahead, because it’s just been too smooth for so long. And when that sudden jolt comes, part of me wants to bang my head on a wall, and scream “I told you so! WhyContinue reading “God blesses”
Nursing
We think we “know” a disease because we know it’s anatomy and physiology, diagnostics and treatments. But when it happens to you or someone close, all of a sudden there’s that sharp intake of breathe and worried feeling that ensues. As a nurse, a patient’s diagnosis registers a professional level of understanding and interpretations, but asContinue reading “Nursing”
Who do you think you are
There are times when they make your measly existence feel stupid, useless, pointless, worthless. They trivialize all your efforts and magnify the imperfections. They care only about the money they did not pay, the data on their charts, and finding a scapegoat. There is a time when enjoying work and exploration is frowned upon, isContinue reading “Who do you think you are”
Nursing & Starbucks
Another night shift. Another post-night breakfast of Starbucks Caramel Ribbon Crunch frappucino and a Croque Monsieur. Thinking back, my favourite Broadmead post-shift indulgence was a cuppa Apple Cider or Hot Chocolate at Starbucks. Something about aimlessly sitting after a physically and mentally exhausting day made the whole day seem worth it, somehow. But recently, stressContinue reading “Nursing & Starbucks”
真是夠扯
This world is so foreign?? What is their logic? Their thought process? Just wtfh are they thinking? It’s the first I’ve ever heard of, a worker willing to end their sick leave early to come back to work and getting BS from their management. So I apologize for the kindly doctor that wrote the extraContinue reading “真是夠扯”
Admission on April Fools
Heh, what a joke, on a day that I should be working my ass off on a A/N shift at the hospital, I’m in a hospital…bed with patient clothes on. Also at a surgical ward, things take a certain familiarity, except I’m now at the receiving end. Being told when to start fasting, being givenContinue reading “Admission on April Fools”
Visualization…
Had the luxury to attend a “Visualization symposium” and the following lecture with guest speakers from Strasbourg. Tailored towards surgeons and medical professionals, with computer science, graphics and rending, and engineering at its finest applications…I was lost! Oh the language was no problem, with their elegant French-English, and random techie geek-speak piqued my interest. ButContinue reading “Visualization…”
Dog tired
I’m beat, flat, worn out, dog tired. Not the physical exertion, but from the stream (or ocean) of insensitive blasé criticism. Tired legs and flaky hands will resolve, but my self confidence is eroding away. (A post-shift snack…an attempt to replenish physical and psychological exhaustion)
