All these days stuck at home with my parents nagging how I should do more exercise, I finally agreed to join them on this light hike/walk. Since I’d really hadn’t planned on being in Hong Kong for such a long time, bringing mostly winter wear, I didn’t pack any sportswear, not to mention sneakers. Yea, I can be quite the homebody…

So off we set at around 13:00 (avoiding the regular morning crowds) in my haphazardly scraped together barely active wear, and yep, 1″ heels! (Although Jipi Japa claims these shoes share the soles of sneakers, making it extremely comfortable to walk around in, let’s put them to the test!).

Poisonous trees

Apparently these trees are poisonous, don’t touch!

The closest MTR station would be Kam Sheung Road station on the West Rail line. Given our current location, we took a green minibus outside Yuen Kong Village (元崗村) to Lui Kung Tin (雷公田). It was a quick ride and the final stop at Rte Twisk (荃錦公路) is where we disembarked and started our hike.

15:30 We started off at Lui Kung Tim Tsuen (雷公田村). Cars are allowed at the first part of the walk, so be careful of passing vehicles.‼️

There are couple small BBQ and picnic sites around here. It wasn’t too crowded when we walked by, and it feels quite comfortable. There’s male and female public washrooms too.

After about 10~15 minutes walk, there’s a famous dairy company, selling self manufactured carton milk. On better days (non-Coronavirus days), they also sell some dairy related desserts and snacks such as fresh milk (鮮奶), ginger milk pudding (薑汁撞奶), stewed milk (燉奶), mango pudding (芒果布丁) and non-related such as instant noodles (餐蛋麵). But obviously in the midst of the Coronavirus outbreak, they only sell small (500g) or large (1L) sized cartons of milk, and through the crack of the gates too! Their pup was awfully cute and came up to the gates to greet us and stayed as the owner chatted with us all the way until we made our purchase, whence he promptly swished his tail and turned his back XD (possibly because the family’s baby came bumbling out). The owner was very friendly and chatty, not pushy at all.

The “hike” path consists mostly of flat paved road, with a lot of trees and greenery on either side. I keep using quotations, because to most hikers, it’s probably more like a walk in the park. But for one in heels (albeit just one inch XD), it was quite ideal. There were openings in the bushes at occasional places throughout the walk, that provided an amazing overview of surrounding grounds and mountainscapes.

Sun setting over the lands

18:03 We turned off the larger path and down the hill around Yuen Kong New Village (元崗新村). The sun was just at the horizon, and provided a spectacular sight. Unfortunately, many of the lands at this slope were actually burial lands, and Chinese culture (or just my mom) doesn’t like taking photos of them. My overactive imagination (or mom’s nagging) finally got the better of me, and I carefully only snapped pictures of the path and sunset (and thankfully I haven’t seen any weird shadows yet 😱). Anyways, my point is…what was it? Oh, be notified if things like this freak you out…‼️

Path on downward slope

By this time, in addition to the downwards force of my toes in tight shoes, my feet became unbearably blistered (for the record, 8 blisters and 2 sores), but otherwise the walk was pretty comfortable. Had to sprint or jog to keep up with the group occasionally, but that’s mostly related to me stopping and taking too much photos/videos.
