Facing the Face Mask Shortage
In the wake of a severe mask shortage since the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, a group of caring youngsters brought out boxes of face masks and hand sanitizers to hand out for free, to residents of Yuen Kong Tsuen at the archway and the village office today. Although rumors say the most dire shortage may be relieved soon, there are still many elderlies and retirees that have difficulty running around the city in search of affordable face masks. In many pharmacies, the prices are still at least double or triple the regular prices. For more reliable Japanese made face masks, prices can go up to $500-1k HKD a box. Not too long ago, there were also trends of stockpiling toilet paper, rice, and even instant noodles; acts that reflect the fear, anxiety and distrust in the governing system.
In these times, it’s nice to see such caring and thoughtful act. As opposed to the selfishness of those buying out face masks and cleaning solutions, and boosting prices for financial gains, these youngsters are handing free face masks and sanitizers that many people need. With youths like these, I believe Hong Kong may still have a future. Add Oil Hong Kong!! Stay strong, stay healthy!!
